(Depression Quiz)
The danger of dreams and goals

by Pete
(Dubai)

In this day and age it is too easy to be goal driven, deciding all those things you want in life, developing time lines and making it happen.

However, as they say, the greatest disappointment in life is not achieving your goals, and the second greatest disappointment is... achieving them. What about those with anxiety issues, like myself, who must achieve their goals at whatever cost and as the due date of the goal gets closer, the anxiety gets higher.

It then becomes impossible to 'enjoy the journey', 'be in the moment', 'appreciate what you have' and the other wonderful phrases of wisdom. At the age of 50 I realized that I wasted the last 30 years chasing money and material goals and got way off track with my own inner nature.

Now at 51, after losing everything (twice), I'm faced with how to change my life to live my true inner nature while avoiding the anxiety of a financially insecure retirement. The answer lies in 'faith' and 'trust'.

Of all the things that I have achieved in my life, trust and faith are the hardest to achieve and every day of my life I find reasons not to have faith and trust.

Kind regards
Pete

Depression Quiz
great response

by: Pete

Thank you. Chasing material goals is definitely what has drained my energy. Without energy I could no longer suppress the depression which I never knew I had.

The success I was chasing was definitely to prove something to others because I felt i was a failure in school.

I love your definition of vision, I think I will have to use that at work. That would definitely throw them into a spin.

The energy drain continues as you build the awareness to the level where you realize you are not living your vision and you are stuck financially where you can't pull yourself out to follow your vision. You then have to push yourself out of bed and into a job you now realize is not you... every day.

As usual, I have a 3 year plan to move into MY path and MY vision, inshalla (god willing), it will happen this time :-)

Thank you Laura for the opportunity to chat.

Vision, Purpose, Dreams, and Goals
by: Laura (webmaster) Responds

You put it so well when you said the greatest disappointment in life is not achieving goals and the second is achieving them. It is a conundrum.

In a perfect world, goals, dreams, and challenges are exciting opportunities. Energetically, dreams and goals are about possibility and potential.

They represent the spring-time energy of new beginnings, the light after the dark, hope, rebirth, resurrection. You can see how having problems in this area could lead to depression.

Perhaps chasing material goals is born of a lack of awareness of what success means to you personally. Perhaps you are on a good track now, as you identify faith and trust and being true to your inner nature as new goals?

Perhaps, like so many of us, you did not question others definitions of success. Perhaps you set out to be successful in THEIR eyes. Being successful in their eyes can SEEM necessary in order to feel worthwhile. That is where the anxiety comes in. When your very worth is at stake, it ceases to be an exciting opportunity! Rather, it is losing your inner truth while draining your life energy for something that is not meaningful for you.

There is Ambition versus Vision and Purpose:

Ambition equals competition, high expectations, risk of failure, proving your self instead of radiating love, a troubled mind, and an arduous journey.

Vision is born of joy and self-discovery, a reflection of heart passion. It brings a sense of home, peace, and clear, relaxed intentions.

The goal must be envisioned. It is an expression or quality, a sense of purpose. It is simply the next best thing to do that is right in front of you?one step at a time.

Your vision goal purpose sets a direction, creates a natural motivation, is fed with energy. There is an eagerness to learn, to develop skills, to discard outdated self images and to find new potentials. There is an awareness that is flexible as it explores, that attracts what it needs to discover.

When you are on YOUR path, with YOUR vision, with relaxed aware movement forward, you attract grace into your life. Life feels supported. You are filled with gratitude for who you are, for your dreams, your opportunities, your growth. There is no need to force faith and trust, it is inherent in you. You have a sense of connection ? to your self, to your soul, to others, to your field of dreams; you dance with higher intelligence. You feel fulfillment IN BEING, rather than a need to succeed in someone else?s eyes.

It is a creative process. There is uncertainty and change. Vision reshapes itself as you see and accept life as it is, as you reshape yourself in response to life, as you continuously commit to your intention and vision for fulfillment.

Pursue success and misery follows. Pursue joy and success follows.
