Depression Poems - The Prisoner
by By: Deborah LaBrake
(New York)
The sun goes down and a soul is at rest.
Asleep, a beautiful gift to escape the thoughts,
of endless fear and emotions.
She is awakened by another shattered day.
Minds soar and tears roll,
the world too much to handle.
She has pity on herself.
A chance to live, afraid of losing
Afraid of knowing,
afraid of a gift so precious you can not imagine.
The mind takes over a million times.
Happiness fades out.
Sadness and fear destroy her slowly?
Hopelessness
The beat of the heart, wish it would stop.
She can not see the light, drowning in the dark.
Feeling lonely but never alone
She prays to God, asking for a sign.
Does she give up, or keep going, keep trying.
What to do? It is just not that clear.
No doubt she is loved by many.
A great life with success and beauty
Wished by everyone, taken for granted
Her heart aches for the longing of a day,
that a mind at flight is now a mind at peace.
Scared of life and death she trembles.
What she thought she knew, now she knows nothing.
Shy and feeling alone,
She walks down in the shadows of the day.
A believer who is now lost, lost to fear she sobs.
So many ways to die, only one way to live
A vicious cycle, what is the point when it doesn not even matter?
Taken prisoner by herself, she tries to escape.
The bars are too tight, it is an endless fight.
Not only is she crying but her soul cries.
Sudden bursts of happiness
Followed by a voice that says there is no need to be.
Every voice echoes and lingers.
Eats her alive from her toes to her fingers.
Music! A way to get out!
Hear the stories, feel the passion
Music and companion are what she relies on
To get her through the misery
Fight! Fight it! Beat the day!
In the name of Jesus she casts it away!
The black that overpowers now turns into gray.
She needs a way out! She scared and she is crying.
Afraid of death she realizes
Is the slowest and most painful way of dying.
